Laser Sintering can be used in all stages of the product development process, from concept to design validation, engineering and field trials, and small production runs of small components up to 1000 units.
Laser Sintering, like all additive manufacturing processes, builds parts in a layer by layer process. The materials used to manufacture laser sintered models are powder based, which results in parts having a slightly granule surface finish. As the powder is spread across the surface, a computer controlled C02 laser beam scans the surface and selectively binds together the powder. During the laser sintering process the powder temperature increases above the material transition point and causes the particles to flow together to form the component.
